Henderson, Nev. – Henderson middle and high school students will get a taste of how manufacturing has changed over the years on Thursday and Friday as the City of Henderson hosts tours of a local company as part of National Manufacturing Day.
In celebration of Manufacturing Day 2017, the students will also have the chance to learn about the outstanding opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide.
“There is an increasing demand for highly skilled professionals in the manufacturing sector who can design, program and operate technology,” said Barbra Coffee, Director of the city’s Economic Development and Tourism Department. “Henderson is home to more than 50 manufacturing firms and the city is well positioned for future manufacturing growth.”
The city is partnering with the Clark County School District and Unilever to host student tours of the Unilever facility in Henderson. Unilever is a global manufacturing company with manufacturing plants throughout the world. The company’s Henderson plant makes ice cream.
“We want our local students who take these tours to see the career possibilities in manufacturing,” said Coffee. “Henderson continues to be a place that welcomes new manufacturing businesses and encourages this industry’s growth and sustainability by promoting the development of a future workforce.”
Manufacturing Day was first held in 2012 and is recognized on the first Friday of October. Mayor March and the City Council issued a proclamation at the Oct. 3 City Council meeting recognizing Oct. 6 as this year’s Manufacturing Day.
